BOBBY BARE – I Need Some Good News Bad

Sorrow comes like a thief in the night
And leaves me cold and sad
Lord, please Lord, send a word from her
‘Cause I need some good news bad.

Why did she take her love from me
When she was all I had
I feel a tear roll down my cheek
I need some good news bad.

I need her hear to ease this pain
Lord, it hurts so bad
Just tell me she will be a coming back
‘Cause I need some good news bad.

Lord, tell me she will be a coming back
‘Cause I need some good news bad…

BOBBY BARE – I’m So Afraid Of Losing You Again

Sometimes I want to throw my arms around you
Then I tremble at the thought of giving in
Because I know how much it cost to love you
I’m so afraid of losing you again.

Being close to you revives the sorrow
That wakes me up and tells me I can’t win
I’d love to wake up in your arms tomorrow
But I’m so afraid of losing you again.

If heaven word to hear my heart’s confession
Wanting you would be my greatest sin
And I’m glad that you’re no longer my possession
Cause I’m so afraid of losing you again.

Being close to you revives the sorrow
That wakes me up and tells me I can’t win
I’d love to wake up in your arms tomorrow
But I’m so afraid of losing you again.

I’d love to wake up in your arms tomorrow
But I’m so afraid of losing you again…

BOBBY BARE – I’ll Feel A Whole Lot Better

The reason why I can say
I have to let you go babe and ride away
After what you did I can’t stay on
And I prob’ly feel a whole lot better when you’re gone
Oh, when you’re gone.

Baby for a long time you have to believe
That your love was all mine that’s the way it should be
But I didn’t know you were puttin’ me on
And I prob’ly feel a whole lot better when you’re gone
When you’re gone.

Now I’ve gotta say that it’m not like before
And I’m not gonna play your games anymore
After what you did I can’t stay on
And I prob’ly feel a whole lot better when you’re gone.
When you’re gone, when you’re gone, when you’re gone…

BOBBY BARE – House Of The Rising Sun

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the rising sun
And it’s been the ruin
Of many poor boys
Lord I know I’m one

My mother was a tailor
Sew my old blue jeans
My daddy was a gambling man
In a town called New Orleans

The only thing a gambler needs
Is a suitcase and a trunk
And the only he’s satisfied
Is when he’s only drunk

So mama tell your children
Never do what I have done
You live your life in pain and misery
In the house of the rising sun

I got one foot on the platform
The other foot on the train
And I’m going back to New Orleans
To wear the ball and chain

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the rising sun
Yea, we still got that old house in New Orleans
That we call the rising sun
Made a mess out of many old poor boys
Only God knows I’m one

BOBBY BARE – Help Me Make It Through The Night

Take the ribbon from your hair
Shake it loose and let it fall
Laying soft upon my skin
Like the shadows on the wall.

Come and lay down by my side
Till the early morning light
All I’m taking is your time
Help me make it through the night.

I don’t care who’s right or wrong
I don’t try to understand
Let the devil take tomorrow
Lord, tonight I need a friend.

Yesterday is dead and gone
And tomorrow’s out of sight
And it’s sad to be alone
Help me make it through the night.

Come and lay down by my side
Till the early morning light
All I’m taking is your time
Help me make it through the night…

BOBBY BARE – Green Green Grass Of Home

The old hometown looks the same
As I step down from the train
And there to meet me is my mama and my papa
And down the road I look and there runs Mary
Hair of gold and lips like cherries
It’s good to touch the green, green grass of home.

Yes, they’ll all come to meet me
Arms a-reaching, smiling sweetly
It’s so good to touch the green, green grass of home.

The old house is still standing
Though the paint is cracked and dry
And there’s the old oak tree that I used to play on
Down the lane I walk with my sweet Mary
Hair of gold and lips like cherries
It’s good to touch the green, green grass of home.

Then I awake and look around me
At the grey walls that surround me
And I realized I was only dreaming
For there’s a guard and there’s a sad old padre
Arm in arm we’ll walk at daybreak
Again I’ll touch the green, green grass of home.

Yes, they’ll all come to see me
In the shade of that old oak tree
As they lay me ‘neath the green, green grass of home…

BOBBY BARE – Four Strong Winds

Four strong winds that blow lonely seven seas that run high
All these things that don’t change come what may
But my good times are all gone and I’m bound for moving on
I’ll look for you if I’m ever back this way

I may go out to Alberta weather’s good there in the fall
Got some friends that I can go to workin’ for
Still I wish you’d change your mind if I asked you one more time
But we’ve been through that a hundred times or more

If I get there before the snow flies and things are going good
You could join me if I sent you down the fare
But if you’ll wait until it’s winter it would do no good
But the winds sure can blow cold way out there
Four strong winds that blow lonely…

BOBBY BARE – For The Good Times

Don’t look so sad, I know it’s over
But life goes on and this old world will keep on turning
Let’s just be glad we had some time to spend together
There’s no need to watch the bridges that were burning.

Lay your head upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body close to mine
Hear the whisper of the raindrops blowing soft against the window
And make believe you love me one more time, for the good times.

I’ll get along you’ll find another
And I’ll be here if you should find you ever need me
Don’t say a word about tomorrow or forever
There’ll be time enough for sadness when you leave me.

Lay your head upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body close to mine
Hear the whisper of the raindrops blowing soft against the window
And make believe you love me one more time, for the good times…

BOBBY BARE – Find Out What’s Happening

Baby, you know me well
You know I mean what I say
Before I say farewell
I’ll give you just one more day.

So you can find out what’s happening
Find out what’s happening before long
If you don’t find out what’s happening
You’re gonna find out that I’m gone.

Tell me what you’re gonna do
You better make up your mind
It all depends on you
Or I’m leaving you behind.

You’d better find out what’s happening
Find out what’s happening before long
If you don’t find out what’s happening
You’re gonna find out that I’m gone.

Baby you know it’s true
We’ve been through thick and thin
But if you don’t come through
You won’t ever see me again.

You’d better find out what’s happening
Find out what’s happening before long
If you don’t find out what’s happening
You’re gonna find your daddy gone.

Find out what’s happening.
Find out what’s happening.
Find out what’s happening…

BOBBY BARE – Farewell Angelina

Farewell Angelina, the bells of the crown
Have been stolen by bandits, I must follow the sound
The triangle tingles, and the trumpets play slow
Farewell, Angelina, the sky’s on fire and I must go

There’s no need for anger, there’s no need for blame
There’s nothing to prove, everything’s still the same
Just a table that’s empty by the edge of the sea
Farewell, Angelina the sky is trembling, and I must leave

The Jacks and the queens have forsaken the courtyard
52 gypsies now fight passed the guards
In a space where the dukes and the ace once ran wild
Farewell, Angelina, the sky is folding I’ll see you in a while

See the cross-eyed pirates sitting birched in the sun
Shooting 10 cans with a sort-of shot-gun
And the neighbors they clap and they cheer with each blast
Farewell, Angelina, the sky’s changing colors and I must leave fast

Hang calm, little elves on the roof tops they dance
Valentino-type tangos while they make-up man’s hands
Shut the eyes of the dead, not to embarrass anyone
Farewell, Angelina, the sky’s embarrassed and I must be gone

The machine guns are roaring, the puppet, she rocks
Avenge nailing time-bombs to the hands of the clock
Call me any name you like, I will never deny
Farewell, Angelina, the sky’s erupting, I must go where it’s quiet

Farewell, Angelina, the sky is on fire and now I must go

BOBBY BARE – Dream Baby

Sweet dream baby
Sweet dream baby
Sweet dream baby
How long must I dream?

Dream baby got me dreamin’
Sweet dreams the whole day through
Dream baby got me dreamin’
Sweet dreams nighttime too.

I love you and I’m dreamin’ of you
That won’t do
Dream baby make me stop my dreamin’
You can make my dreams come true.

Sweet dream baby
Sweet dream baby
Sweet dream baby
How long must I dream?

Sweet dream baby
Sweet dream baby
Sweet dream baby
How long must I dream?

Dream baby got me dreamin’
Sweet dreams the whole day through
Dream baby got me dreamin’
Sweet dreams nighttime too…

BOBBY BARE – Detroit City

I wanna go home, I wanna go home
Oh, how I wanna go home.

Last night I went to sleep in Detroit City
And I dreamed about those cottonfields and home
I dreamed about my mother dear, old papa, sister and brother
I dreamed about that girl who’s been waiting for so long
I wanna go home, I wanna go home, oh, how I wanna go home.

Homefolks think I’m big in Detroit City
From the letters that I write they think I’m fine
But by day I make the cars, by night I make the bars
If only they could read between the lines.

‘Cause you know I rode the freight train north to Detroit City
And after all these years I find I’ve just been wastin’ my time
So I just think I’ll take my foolish pride
And put it on a Southbound freight and ride.
And go on back to the loved ones, the ones that I left waitin’ so far behind.

I wanna go home, I wanna go home,
Oh, how I wanna go home…

BOBBY BARE – Dear John Letter

[Skeeter]
Dear John oh how I hate to write dear John I must let you know tonight
That my love for you has died away like grass upon the lawn
And tonight I wed another dear John
[Bobby]
I was overseas in battle when the postman came to me
He handed me a letter and I was just as happy as I could be
Cause the fighting was all over and the battles have all been won
But then I opened up the letter and that started dear John
Won’t you please send back my picture my husband wants it now
When I tell you who I’m wedding you won’t care dear anyhow
And it hurts me so to tell ye that my love for you has gone
But tonight I wed your brother dear John
[Skeeter]
And tonight I wed another dear John

BOBBY BARE – I’ve Been Rained On Too

If you’re afraid to touch my hand it’s all right I understand
All the changes you’ve been through I’ve been rained on too
You don’t know you can be sure believe me I’ve been there before
Trusting me that’s all you knew but I’ve been rained on too.

Like you I’ve really loved someone only to be walked upon
And by your lonely look I see you’d been rained on just like me
But I have made it through the storm so I know where you’re coming from
I’ll take special care of you I’ve been rained on too
I’ve been rained on too.

BOBBY BARE – Boll Weevil

Now boll weevil just look like bove
Come on with Mexico
All the way through Texas I’m looking for a home
Looking for a home

Now the first time I see the boll weevil
He’s sitting on the square
Next time I see the boll weevil
Got all his family there

Looking for a home
Looking for a home

Now the farmer say to the weevil
What makes your head so red?
Then walking in his hot sun
It’s a wonder I ain’t late

Looking for a home
Looking for a home

Then the boll weevil told the farmer
You better sell your machine
Cause when I’m through with your cotton house
You can even buy gasoline

Gotta have a home
Gonna be my home

And the farmer take the boll weevil
Put him into red hot sand
The weevil said with mighty heart
But I’ll take it like a man

Be my home
Gonna be my home

And the farmer took the boll weevil
Put him into red hot fire
The weevil said to the farmer
I must say I’m hot

Be my home
Gonna be my home

Then the boll weevil say to the farmer
I’d like to wish you well
The farmer said to the boll weevil
Wish you were in hell

Looking for a home
Looking for a home

Now if anyone happens to ask it
You that was had to sing his song
Tell him a long legged guitar
Pick it with a bad blue duckin long

Looking for a home
I ain’t got no home

I ain’t got no home boss
I ain’t got no home

BOBBY BARE – Banks Of The Ohio

I asked my love to take a walk
To take a walk, just a little walk
Down beside where the waters flow
Down by the banks of the Ohio

And only say that you’ll be mine
In no others’ arms entwine
Down beside where the waters flow
Down by the banks of the Ohio

I held a knife against her breast
As into my arms she pressed
She cried “my love, don’t you murder me
I’m not prepared for eternity”

I wandered home ‘tween twelve and one
I cried, “My God, what have I done?”
I’ve killed the only girl I need
Because she would not marry me

And only say that you’ll be mine
In no others’ arms entwine
Down beside where the waters flow
Down by the banks of the Ohio

The next day, right half past four
The sheriff walked right to my door
And he says young man, don’t you try to run
You gotta pay for this awful crime you’ve done

Only say that you’ll be mine
In no others’ arms entwine
Down beside where the waters flow
Down by the banks of the Ohio

Down by the banks of the Ohio

BOBBY BARE – A Dear John Letter

Dear John, oh, how I hate to write
Dear John, I must let you know tonight
That my love for you has died the way like grass upon the lawn
And tonight I wed another, dear John.

BOBBY BARE – A Bird Named Yesterday

I had a bird he flew away
And I guess he’s gone to stay
But I see him winging on his way
My flyaway bird named Yesterday.

He’s over the place of my birth
He’s circling a spot that I know
He’s hangin’ around the Saw Mill town
Where the gentle summer breezes blow.

I had a bird he flew away
And I guess he’s gone to stay
But I see him winging on his way
My flyaway bird named Yesterday.

He’s riding on a train
He’s down at the old swimmin’ hole
He’ll fly till he finds
That old gang of mine.

Then he’ll search for a tree
A big tall oak tree
Then he’ll look from his perch
At the old country church.

I had a bird he flew away
And I guess he’s gone to stay
But I see him winging on his way
My flyaway bird named Yesterday…

[Narrative by Bobby spoken after song:]
My name is Bob, Bill my name is Joe. I live in Little Rock, Seattle. I even
live in Kokomo. I was born in a big city and I was born on a farm (he’s over
the place of my birth) And I was born and grew up in a little town in southern
Ohio and I still live here. You know my town never changed much until a few
years ago When that big industrial outfit came in and bought up a lot of the
land around here. Fact is they just about bought the whole town.

BOBBY BARE – 500 Miles Away From Home

I’m five hundred miles away from home.
Teardrops fell on mama’s note when I read the things she wrote
She said, “We miss you son, we love you come on home.”
Well, I didn’t have to pack, I had it all right on my back
Now I’m five hundred miles away from home.

Away from home, away from home
Cold and tired and all alone
Yes, I’m five hundred miles
Away from home.

I know this is the same road I took the day I left home
But it sure looks different now
Well, I guess I look different too cause time changes everything
I wonder what they’ll say when they see their boy looking this way
Oh, I wonder what they’ll say when I get home.

Can’t remember when I ate it’s just thumb and walk and wait
And I’m still five hundred miles away from home
If my luck had been just right I’d be with them all tonight
But I’m still five hundred miles away from home.

Away from home, away from home
Cold and tired and all alone
Yes, I’m five hundred miles
Away from home…

BOBBY BARE – Bye Bye Love

Bye, bye love, bye, bye happiness
Hello loneliness, I think I’m gonna cry
Bye, bye love, bye, bye sweet caress
Hello emptiness, I feel like I could die
Bye, bye, my love, goodbye.

There goes my baby with someone new
He sure feel happy, I sure look blue
He was my baby till she walked in
Goodbye to romance that might have been.

Bye, bye love, bye, bye happiness
Hello loneliness, I think I’m gonna cry
Bye, bye love, bye, bye sweet caress
Hello emptiness, I feel like I could die
Bye, bye, my love, goodbye.

I’m through with romance, I’m through with love
I’m through with counting the stars above
I guess the reason why I’m so free
Is both my babies walked out on me.

Bye, bye love, bye, bye happiness
Hello loneliness, I think I’m gonna cry
Bye, bye love, bye, bye sweet caress
Hello emptiness, I feel like I could die
Bye, bye, my love, goodbye.

Bye, bye, my love, goodbye.
Bye, bye, my love, goodbye.
Bye, bye, my love, goodbye…
